the thing about magnets
dots and magnets.
Last week I put a shoutout re: lead magnet ideas and got a wonderful response from Louise.
She’s recently released a book called Make Work Work For You and you should go buy it.
She replied and I gave her these ideas (which coincide with her book launch):
- Offer a quick custom audit that applies the principles from the book to workplaces *(offered to people who have downloaded the book and have a corporate/workplace email domain)*
- Sign-up for a quick video series of Make Work Work For You - with a short 90 second lessons texted to you on WhatsApp for 5 mornings in a row*(builds a relationship in another channel, adds the power of voice, warms people for any additional offers you’re making)*
- Offer a lunchtime on-site/video Meeting Ritual workshop for any business that’s curious free of charge *(offer to any existing lists)*
Lead magnet is an outdated term.
I know this because I used to have this association in my head with PDF content locked behind email gates.
And I’m a veteran digital marketer.
But instead think of them as low-touch, high-impact ways to help.
Something you can offer that’s one (you) to many (your audience or a segment of your audience).
There’s 101 ways to do this and they can be fun.
Once you find a mechanic that works (like a business audit for example).
You can repeat it in various formats -
- Business audit checklist
- Business audit 2-hour how to
- Business audit 5-email series
- Business audit kit
- Business audit webinar
A good marketer knows what these “types” are - and how to spin them up for an emerging business at pace.
I got excited about this idea and registered theleadmagnet.biz and haven’t done much with it.
I’m coaching founders through early growth and subsidising this focus with project work until it’s self-sustaining.
Until next time,
-Marshy
p.s. I’m happy to spit some ideas your way if you want to be like Louise - just reply :)
It was a cracking day in the Melbourne CBD last week and I felt fabulous
