Last week I said I had a bit of spare time and wanted to test more video with shorts.
This is what happened in the last week:
Not bad right?
Well actually in the scheme things - it’s unprecedented.
Here’s the lifetime view count of my channel:
The number’s pathetic.
It’s never been a focus, and while I love presenting, have never been inclined to go hard at it because I have other things to do (like work for clients, raise my family, get sober and completely transform my life from the inside etc etc.)
Here’s a short video I did on my LinkedIn four months ago sharing the playbook:
- run monster long-form content
- run shorts as much as you can
- put offers through your longform with retargeted ads to people hyper-engaging, and in your longer videos
The thinking is - put yourself out there, and just let the algorithms find the people that are interested in it.
This last part is actually kind of unheard of in digital marketing land.
SEO -> Build for what people are searching for
Paid ads -> Target based on interests or what people are searching for
Podcast sponsorships -> Target what your ideal customers are interested in
But if you put out enough content that you know is good and valuable (like I have on my YouTube and other channels) and then put out enough of it in short form - the algorithms are going to lead the most interested people back to it.
That’s it.
This isn’t just what I’m saying -

and more…
But rather than just take my word for it - go and build a longform video (10mins+), then 5-10 shorts, and let it rip on subject matter that you know your audience loves.
The more volume you can do the better.
I know for a fact there’s at least 20-30 businesses on my list that can do this today.
(And most of you won’t because I don’t know why).
Until next time!

p.s. I’ve just gone all-in on a project for the next 6 months with UseVerb.com - it’s a job application tool that leads with video for business owners. They’ve got a lot of traction in fast-growth hospitality and customer service roles and I’l be leading their growth, the reason I’m sharing this is because I’m closing most of my availability for work for the foreseeable future and the only way to get more help is through my advisory service @ $1,000 per month + GST - More info hereI’m working with a few founders now and have 2 more spots left then that’s it for a while (:
